Computer Science and System Engineering

Computers play an increasingly important role in today's advanced information society. For example, faster computers and digital networks help to improve manufacturing technologies used for new product innovation and contribute substantially to the improvement of production efficiency. The functionality and added value of automobiles and consumer electronic appliances are also increasing, thanks to the use of networked computer control systems with embedded software. Recently, it has become possible for computers to process human senses and feelings as well as audio and video content, and to transmit and present them via digital networks. In a ubiquitous network society where anything can be shared over a network, computers are incorporated into all manner of systems where they play a central role.

In the field of computer science and system engineering, we aim to set up environments and systems whereby research and education can take place through a coordinated interlinking of diverse research domains including energy systems, electrical/mechanical control systems, computer network systems and media information systems. Here we provide people with the skills needed to understand systems and resolve issues from a broad viewpoint adapted to an advanced information society. Specifically, we are engaged in the education and research of subjects such as energy system management and system modeling/control technology that work in harmony with the environment, network computing technology for the achievement of a safe, secure and comfortable Internet society, multimedia information processing technology, and human/computer interface technology.
